JOE ZULAWSKI
Park Ridge, Illinois
Born 1918

A recent show in Chicago was entitled "1936-1996: Joe Zulawski's first 60 years in art---a retrospective show." He received his training in such prestigious art institutions as the Art Institute and the New Bauhaus in Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology's Institute of Design. Joe has earned his living in art-related professions - from free-lance advertising artist to high school teacher of art, design, photography, art history and archeology ("a big schmear of things," he jokes). His style is eclectic and he has worked in many mediums. Joe's most recent focus is in acrylic painting. Even as his macular degeneration progresses, he is creating sculpture made from a variety of found materials. Describing his own work, Joe quips, "I haven't followed any school. My stuff is all mixed up. You'll find all styles."
